Fractals
Hardangervidda, Norway

Fractals
Photographed in June on the Hardangervidda plateau, this image shows a partially thawed mountain lake with a surface structure that appears both organic and geometric. These fractal-like formations emerge as melting accelerates along weak points in the ice, shaped by temperature differences, water flow, and subtle variations in surface structure.
The branching patterns are common in the region and occur in similar forms across different lakes—both large and small. With a diameter of around 50 meters, the scene reveals a natural process that repeats itself at various scales.
